Coffee Case File 042 Status: DECLASSIFIED

Over the last few years, I’ve really fallen in love with coffees from Peru. They don’t always get the same attention as other Latin American origins, and I rarely see them featured in lineups at other shops. That under-the-radar status is part of what makes them so compelling to me—and why I’m proud to keep bringing Peruvian coffees into Coffee Conspiracy whenever I can. When sourced with care, they have a quiet confidence to them: not flashy, not trendy, just undeniably good.

Case File 42 is an exceptional washed coffee that makes a strong argument for why Peru deserves far more respect than it usually gets. From the first sip, it’s clean and juicy, opening with clarity before unfolding into layered flavors of chocolate, peach, orange, and ripe papaya. The fruit notes feel vibrant but intentional, never wild or overripe, anchored by a chocolate backbone that keeps everything grounded. There’s a brightness running through the cup, but it’s balanced and approachable—more precision than punch, delivering lift and energy without any sharp edges.

Every year, I make a point to highlight a few Peruvian coffees because they consistently deliver depth, structure, and character when everything is done right. This lot, imported by our friends at Royal Coffee, is a perfect example of that potential fully realized. It’s the kind of coffee that doesn’t shout for attention but earns it anyway—thoughtful, expressive, and endlessly drinkable. A reminder that some of the most compelling coffees aren’t chasing trends; they’re just quietly doing exactly what they’re meant to do.
